The Artist

Joaquim Bezerra is a multi-faceted creative professional with over a decade of experience across a number of disciplines in the arts, design and project management. 

In his process of research and artistic production, Joaquim creates dialogues between  the Visual Arts, with Performance and with Contemporary Theatre. A multi-media artist, he has worked as an actor, character designer, costume, interior and set designer and performer.

Brazilian from the north of Paraná, he was born in 1982 and made his first contact with the arts when he was 13 years old. Since then he commenced his unstoppable journey where the expression of his own body's sexuality and mind forced him to grow and approach the artistic world with a different understanding and bring his own curiosity about the world of visual and philosophical arts.

During his career, Joaquim has also worked within the areas of marketing, sales management, public relations and productions for companies in Brazil and across Europe, bringing his own unique perspective on how human beings can feel comfortable and safe in this current environment.

He uses his creativity to address the multitude of challenges we face in our contemporary world, utilising his visionary perspective to bring new natural beauty in our time.

Performer

Joaquim studied dance, music and acting at the School of Drama Arts in Londrina, Brazil. Soon after, he joined the Scenic Arts Foundation of Ibiporã-Paraná as a coordinator responsible for the direction and development of cultural folk art, creating space for different classes of work from the production world, directing and also theatre business management.

After this experience Joaquim moved  to São Paulo to work with the VUHA theatre group resident in the Casa das Caldeiras-SP Capital. With 

support from the teachers from ECA-USP University of São Paulo, he gained experience in new languages of work, productions also the audio-visual world.

Returning to his roots in body-performance with the addition of his own experiences and those of the different cultures that make up his life, he has since 2013 worked with performances (production and acting). Today Joaquim works with a group of performers called OBJECTIVE SPECTACLE and has been in the third production with this group performing at MARTIN GROPIUS BAU and BALLHAUS OST Berlin. He continues his study and practice with research on the performance scenic environment with the ODIN TEATRE Denmark with the international CROSS POLLINATION group. Finally, he is conducting research and preparing his solo performance DNA. Da., bringing together his thoughts and view to the question of the body, history and memory.

Management

In between his art studies and experiences, he has worked in sales and management for brands from São Paulo and has curated and managed a sophisticated "pop -up" space to enable new designers to enter this normally restricted sphere.

Character and Costume Design

Working in collaboration with directors, Joaquim uses his talent in hair, make-up and costume design to transform actors for cinematic, theatre, dance and music productions. Examples of this work for artistic and commercial productions are included on this site.

Film and Television

Upon moving to Europe, he started work in Barcelona as art director for films. After two years a new opportunity came allowing him to move to Berlin which is his home base until today. In Berlin he has provided artistic and creative services for a number of film productions.  

In addition to these specialist skills, he also has experience in:
